Old Hall Ely-My First Wedding at a Luxury Venue

There’s something timeless and effortlessly elegant about weddings at Old Hall Ely– and Rachel & Craig’s day was no exception. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful venues, but this was my first luxury venue. It really does tick all the boxes for couples looking for a luxury wedding venue with character.

A Luxury Venue: Old Hall Ely

Tucked away in the heart of the countryside, Old Hall Ely is one of those places that makes you pause as soon as you arrive. Think ivy-covered stone walls, sweeping lawns, and interiors that blend historical charm with modern touches. It's the kind of venue that doesn’t need a lot of dressing up — though Rachel & Craig added their own subtle, stylish touches that made it uniquely theirs.

We used josie for our wedding on the 9th August. It was an amazing experience and we feel very honoured to share the day with Josie. Her pictures were amazing and she quietly took photos whilst smiling constantly..my husband and I would highly recommend her services
— Rachel (Bride)

From a photography perspective, it’s a dream. Natural light pours in through huge windows, the grounds are immaculate, and every corner offers another perfect backdrop. You can even see Ely cathedral from Old Hall Ely’s grounds, which just makes it even more iconic.

Groom Pranks Bride

From the moment I met them, Rachel & Craig had this relaxed energy that made the whole day feel like a big gathering of friends rather than a formal affair. Rachel got ready in one of the Hall’s stunning bridal suites — think high ceilings, antique mirrors, and lots of giggling bridesmaids. She wore a sleek, modern gown that suited her perfectly.

Meanwhile Craig and his groomsmen had a small prank up their sleeves-they had matching pink beach shoes ready to give Rachel a little giggle at the ceremony.

Dancing in the stars

We snuck away after dinner for some couple portraits in the golden hour light, and wow – Old Hall Ely really comes alive in that soft, warm glow. These two were complete naturals. No awkward posing, just the two of them enjoying a quiet moment together (and me, somewhere in the bushes with a camera).

Then came the first dance-wow, just wow. The backdrop was filled with stars and Graham Buxton sang ‘A Sky Full of Stars’ as Rachel and Craig danced their first dance as husband and wife.

Rachel & Craig’s wedding at Old Hall Ely was everything a wedding should be – stylish but relaxed, elegant but fun, and totally them. As a wedding photographer, I feel incredibly lucky to be part of these moments, capturing not just how the day looked, but how it felt.

If you’re planning a wedding at Old Hall Ely (or just dreaming about it), I’d love to chat. Whether you want a full gallery, relaxed candids, or someone who’ll fix your veil before you walk down the aisle — I’ve got you.

Until then, here’s to Rachel & Craig — thank you for trusting me with your memories. What a day.
